ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted February 21, 2008 Report Share Posted February 21, 2008 For a few days I have seen a strange problem in my Add / Remove Programs panel: after a certain entry there started a very long gap (of several dozen empty pages, with various colours in it), until it continued normally near the end of the scroll area. Sorry, I didn't take screen shots of it.I asked my reliable assistant, Google, for help, and it found various discussions with exactly my problem. It seems that the problem arises when the entry after the last shown before the gap is corrupt, then that problem would show up.I found various solutions (some involving massive registry editing), but here is the quick and easy one that resolved the problem.after making a note of the last entry before the gap, and the first entry after the gapopen CCleaner, Toolslocate the two programs noted earlieruninstall the ones in betweenI had two between Java 6 Update 4, and Logitech MouseWare. Both I didn't need, so I uninstalled them. One successfully, the other one wouldn't uninstall, nor was I able to delete the entry. It was KinyonSoft WinToolsXP.So I opened regedit, searched and deleted everything related to KinyonSoft and WinToolsXP, and my Add / Remove Programs panel is back to normal I just thought that I document that here, as this seems to happen from time to time.P.S. as always, before making any manual registry changes, it must be backed up by a reliable tool such as ERUNT. So restoring an older ERUNT backup would probably have done more damage than good. And my fix worked well, anyway...One of the options was to perform a registry backup each time I start up. I said yes to this. Do you think it is 'over the top' or is it a sensible setting?I don't think that's a bad idea. However, are all these backups accumulating somewhere?
