Betsyburp
I have just installed a dvd drive in my computer. We have windows xp professional. I have the systems administrator account. When I try to change the region setting to one through device manager I get an error state that says dvd region change error-unable to update region setting-please make sure the drive contains region one media and you have administration priviledge. Side note, we have never changed the region setting before so the five times and your'e out does not apply here. We are not looking to do a hack, we just want it to work how it is supposed to. Can anyone give us some suggestions......... :D
-pops-
My first guess is that this drive is not as new as you might think (or have been told) it is or that it is faulty.
Betsyburp
We purchased it from Best Buy brand new in a box, it is a Sony DVD R with nero. But I'm beginning to see that no one knows the answer to this. We called Microsoft, I've researched forums and anytime someone has this problem they either don't get a answer or is told to download firmware. It is indeed a mystery and as frustrating as can be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does the drive contain a Region-1 medium at the time when you attempt the change?
