charlieqin
I can type ,for example, \\buster to view a domain computer's share folder, but I cannot view computer name buster or other computer names in the microsoft windows network->abc(domain name), in abc I could only found my own computer name, what is the problem, my OS is xp sp2
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Is it sure that all these computer names are part of the same domain name (ABC)?When you view computer \\buster from the Address bar of Windows Explorer, you should automatically see the expanded domain on the left hand panel. You should then be able to determine what domain it is part of. And if it is part of ABC, then you should at least see that additional computer name under the domain. Like in this example
charlieqin
I typed \\buster but didn't find expanded domain anywhere.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
But that's not Windows Explorer.
charlieqin
Now I use windows explorer, when I type \\buster, I only found abc and sub tree "gg computer(buster)", but not even including my computer name, when I click abc, then I found both my computer name and buster in it, but still no other computer names
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Ok, this is what I wanted to see. Let me do some research on it - I think I have seen this some time in the past. However, I may not be back until tomorrow - I'll have to leave in a few minutes.Maybe someone else with more networking knowledge may step in in the meantime. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Unfortunately I cannot find the problem that I have seen some time ago. Also, I don't remember exactly what it was, but I think it had to do with the firewall setup (networking configuration). What firewall(s) do you have installed on your and other computers on the domain?Do all computers have TCP/IP and 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" installed? charlieqin
Other computers can view all the computer list in domain, they also have install Mcafee same as me. We are in the same domain, all have installed tcp/ip and 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks as defaults.I think these are not the causes of the issue. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
What McAfee product do you have installed? Does it contain a firewall? If not, do you have another active firewall such as Windows firewall?
charlieqin
only windows firewall opened, mcafee in enterprise, no firewall
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I know that I had to configure my firewall (not Windows firewall) so that I could see other computers on the network. Can you temporarily turn the Windows firewall off, reboot, then check if you now can see other computers listed? If this works, then you should configure your Windows firewall accordingly before you turn it back on.P.S. see this guide for basic configuration; there are other guides for Windows firewall network configurations. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
One more question: is this something that started to behave at some point, or did it always behave like that?
charlieqin
sorry, I don't understand what is the exact meaning of "some point", recently I try to do this and restart the computer serveral times, it always has this issue, but I didn't try it before. Irene
Hello Charlieqin :) First I must tell you that I am not expert about networking. However, I just came across this basic answer to a similar question in an internet search.I’m not sure if it’s the same for all versions of Windows, but, you will want to make sure that the ‘Client for Microsoft Networks’ is installed and active on each of your PC’s.To check this is Windows XP: Open Control Panel, Open Network Connections, Right-click your network connection and select Properties, Then make sure you see ‘Client for Microsoft Netowrks’, and make sure there is a check next to it.If you want to look at the forum and thread where I found it LOOK HERE.
