Power outage, now funny stuff

Hi all! Today we had a power outage. When power came back up, I powered up my computer. The Network Connections option in Control panel would not work, nor would it work from command line. I fixed that with regsvr32 netshell.dll.

Another effect of the power outage is this:

When I click on Start --> Run.., or Start --> Search, or Start--> Help and Support, I get a message that "Windows can not create a shortcut here....". I am sure this is a jacked up registry setting, but I am not sure which one it could be.

Any input would be appreciated!

UPDATE: I switched from "Start Menu to "Classic Menu" and those shortcuts work.

Hi Isutiger and welcome to the forum.

One big downside to power outages can be "Bad sectors on the Hard drive" causing all sorts of file corruption and problems. If you are living in an area where this is a common happening (Power outages) It may be well worth considering buying a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) They have now become very cheap to buy.

I would suggest that you run chkdsk in the first instance. Start / Run / type in chkdsk - click on OK, a black box will come up on the screen, let it do it's thing. Reboot the computer and see if there has been an improvement in the running of your System. Follow this with a defrag, and general clean up of the drive.

Let us hope that it is not "Bad Sectors", and that your hard drive is in pristine condition. If not *** HDD REGENERATOR *** will repair bad sectors. Please give us some feedback and let us know if this has been useful to you.
