Anyone else tried it yet?

I just downloaded a program which I missed last weekend.

It's possible just to watch it on your PC screen. Programs are available to watch or download for 7 days after the TV presentation.

First I had to install the BBC Download Manager, then I saved the missed program to my hard disk.

Apparently it lasts for 30 days, or 7days after you have viewed it, then is deleted.

What an amazing era we are living in? :D

Here is a link to their home page for anyone who is interested. ...

Virgin save a lot of programmes for a period of time. You just click the on demand button and scan through what has been saved, then select what you want to watch. You can fast forward, pause or rewind while viewing. No downloads are needed. We have found this facility to be very useful. :D Never used the BBC thingy that you mention.

We don't pay any subscriptions for TV, so for us it may prove to be quite useful. :D

I don't think you can really say that I am paying a subscription as such. Virgin wrote to me some months back and said that as I had their telephone and broadband they wanted to offer me a special deal. The offer was TV XL for £1 per month. I telephoned and asked what the catch or time limit was, and was told that there was no catch or time limit. It was installed a week or so later. We now get over 100 channels if we so desire, together with hundreds of things free on demand and also hundreds of pay as you watch films. :D Our telephone package is £20 per month which includes line rental and ALL geographical calls 24 hours per day and seven days per week. As our phone bill used to be the line rental PLUS an average of £28 per month for calls, this is a pretty good deal. :D

P.S. All the saved old programmes are of course free to watch.

I love bbc iplayer, I watched a few programs on it I was supprised that the quality was so good.

I wish I could get all the other channels like 3 and 4, I think they have that 4od thing but running linux i don't think it will work and I would prefer to watch it on line.

I like watching missed TV shows on Iplayer but I never download them.

The downloads are delivered using the Kontiki P2P network...No biggy,a little sharing never hurt anyone....But Kservice.exe (kontiki) carries on filesharing even after you have finished downloading and closed the download manager.

IE whilst you're sat happily watching Torchwood your PC is still sharing whatever tv shows you've downloaded with the world.

Not good for gamers or people on capped connections :S

4OD uses the same system btw...Best described as malware.

Virgin cable TV are now offering BBC i Player with a simple click of the red button. No downloads, software or computer are required. You simply select the programme required and watch it on the TV screen. This is in addition to all the saved catch up programmes that Virgin normally offer, plus of course all the normal on demand programmes. :D

its the whole point in sharing the file, once its downloaded it will continue sharing untill (normally) it reaches a share ratio of 1:5, this ensures that the program will live and allow other people to easily download it at a convinient speed.

Plus its a massive plus side for BBC as they no longer need to deal with the cost of bandwidth.
