Totally flumoxed

This is going to be a bit of an epistle.

This is a computer running XP home and it keeps losing the ethernet connection, the only wat I can get it back is to uninstall it from device manager and let it find it again form a reboot, then it works allright for a while.

Also I had an Acronis image from 7 days ago, so I thought I would reinstall from that, but when I use the CD to boot Acronis it is showing my USB hard drive as the "C" drive not "F"as it normally is, so I cannot restore as it is trying to restore to the back up drive.

These couple of problems are driving me mad and I have not got much hair left to pull out.

Can anyone come up with some suggestions.

I had a similar problem with my previous computer and I led Acronis support a merry dance trying to sort it out.

The computer got steadily worse at recognising drives and eventually other symptoms developed - like it crashing. It turned out that the heat sink fan had come loose and the cpu was overheating. I advised Acronis and apologised for the trouble I had caused them.

I hope your solution is less complicated.

I wish it was that easy to solve, my proceesor sits at 32c unless stressed and then goes up to 38c.

I am getting the feeling that a fresh install is in the offing.

As far as Acronis is concerned it does not make sense that it is seeing a USB hard drive as the "C" drive.
