nickster Posted March 25, 2008 Report Share Posted March 25, 2008 I want to update my audio driver. The DirectX diagnostic tool shows it is a Realtek driver and the date is April 2006. Realtek's download section shows downloads for consumer audio codecs and PC audio codec. There is a link for software driver and utilities which shows:My driver version is 5.10.0000.5242Software: Drivers & Utilities RTL8100B(L)/RTL8100C(L)/RTL8101L/RTL8139C(L)RTL8139C(L)+/RTL8139D(L)/RTL8100(L)RTL8130/RTL8139B(L) Apparently, "common code or device code or type has "RTL8" in the name, but system information or the directx diagnostic doesn't show an item with "RTL8" as part of the name. The first item is the list for windows has a file size close to my current driver, but the version number just says 687.I don't know what to download. DriverMax does not offer the download of the latest version; you'll have to find it yourself.However, it has the feature to backup all your device drivers, which is a very good idea when you start playing around with your device drivers without exactly knowing what you are doing... I was quite surprised how many of my drivers were out of fashion. And it even identified a previously unknown device on one of my systems. The model number starts with "ALC" and followed by a number.(e.g. ALC 650) Is there a system utility that will tell me what the model number is. The DirectX diagnostic tool doesn't. Open ing up the box would be no problem. -pops- Posted March 28, 2008 Report Share Posted March 28, 2008 Is there a problem with the current driver? If not, I would advise to leave things as they are. I have seen many systems ruined by injudicious tinkering about with this, that and the other.Just because there is a 2006 date on your current driver doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it. I built this computer within the first few days of the release of Windows XP - it works fine and I've never felt the need to update any of the drivers.
