A while ago I bought a laptop which already had windows 2000 installed. I got a bit fed up with it and put windows XP on there but unfortunatly I now have both!! I have tried many ways to revert to just one operating system but it will not let me do so!! Anyone have any ideas? I will ask a few questionsYou obviously now have two partitions; one with XP and one with 2K. What are the partition drive letters, and what are the partition sizes?On your original 2K partition, there should be a hidden file boot.ini; can you post its content here?What is your goal; get rid of the 2K system, or get rid of the XP system and upgrade 2K to XP?Anything else you can add to make the situation more clear?Anyway, it will be quite easy to get your clean XP system.P.S. In fact, there shouldn't be any performance decrease running multiple Windows systems on one computer (as long as they don't run at the same time). Plus when I try the relevent uninstall files do not work.If having two operating systems does not affect my performance how may I enhance my peformance for downloading and a general faster laptop?Thanks in anticipation for your help. However, you can get rid of one of the partitions, fix your boot manager, expand the remaining partition, and you will have a perfectly fine single-partition operating system. If it's on your 2000 partition, then we cannot just go and delete the partition.In fact, I wonder if you cannot just go and format your entire HD, then start a complete new installation of XP? I think a new installation would be better than an upgrade from 2000.I use PartitionMagic as partitioning tool; you probably don't have that.Anyone here to suggest a free partitioning tool that is reliable?
