titan42
Let me start by saying I'm a non expert out of my depth, so need some help from someone wih more expertise/experience. This may be tooooooo much info (apologies if so) but here goes..........Compaq PC fails to start Windows XP. Instead a blue screen:"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer..........Technical information: *** STOP: 0X00000024 (0x00190203, 0x8255f4E8, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000)"I have not installed any new software/hardware prior to error. PC was running slow so within the last 10 days I had done some basic housekeeping of defragmenting the disk and running the utility which empties the recycle bin, deletes temporary internet files etc. PC operated correctly after these actions.Having researched a number of web forums I have tried the following steps but all lead back to the same blue screen:I) When switching on choosing start windows in either safe mode or Last known good configurationII) Pressing F10 at switch on to select the compaq recovery optionIII) I have a windows XP home edition disk (with SP2). By inserting the disk into the CD drive prior to switch on the PC boots from the disk and allows me the option of setting up windows XP or to repair a windows xp installation.a) If I select 'Setting up windows XP' then I see a screen:"The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartioned space on this computer...* To set up windows XP on the selected item press enter* To create a partion in the unpartioned space press C* To delete the selected partion press D152625MB Disk0 at id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]H: Partion1 (Presario_RP) [FAT32] 7139MB (3772MB Free)C: Partion2 (unknown) 145478MB (145478MB free) Unpartioned space 7MB"If I select H: Partion1 then I get a message reading:Drive C is unformated, damaged, or formatted with a file system which is incompatible with windows XP....To format the drive and continue press F CAUTION All data currently on the drive will be lostTo return to the previous screen press ESCIf I select C: Partion2 then I get a message reading:The partion is either too full, damaged, not formatted, or formatted with an incompatible file system......C: Partion2 (unknown) 145478MB (145478MB free).....Format the partion using the NTFS file system (quick)Format the partion using the NTFS file systemI have not undertaken any steps on either H: or C: but exitB) If I select 'To Repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery console' I am given 1: H:\I3862: H:\MiniNTIn turn I have selected both and using advise elsewhere have run CHKDSK /p /r. A series of checks are run, all reach 100% and nothing which looks adverse appears.IV) Finally I have removed the hard drive, installed it into an external housing and connected via a USB cable to another desktop PC. The other PC does not recognise that I have plugged anything in. Tried plugging the same into my laptop, same result. So thanks for reading this far.... Question is what do I try next? Dencandy
Microsoft have this to say about this error code. It looks horribly difficult to repair. Go through their advice step by step. I hope you have a back-up of your important data.
