Mike567
So I have a ultra portable laptop which has a HDD (broken) I can't exactly afford a new one so I'm thinking 4GB USB Flash drive would be brilliant if I could get it internally, no more noise and a better chance at living longer depending on the flash drive. So I'm googlin' USB to IDE/IDE to USB can't find anything I am sure I've seen this done before only on a desktop PC, which has different width.can anyone point me in the right direction? Mike567
My bad I remember now, it was a Hak5 show talking about FreeNAS I tried to find the show couldn't so I loaded freenas knowledge base and there it was boot from a compact flash card!!Depending if it supports MicroDrive it would allow me to get upto 8GB storage capacity, which is more than enough to boot up linux. -pops-
Most USB -> IDE converters come with an adapter for both sizes of IDE drive.I think your problem will be getting the computer to boot from USB. Unless the BIOS has legacy USB, that function is not operative until Windows has loaded.
