fidel Posted April 16, 2008 Report Share Posted April 16, 2008 Hi,i am using a small freeware app from SF.net to get the time from a collection of several level 1 NTP Servers to our Win2003 Server.The freeware (NetTime2) allows to act somehow as server...which means: other boxes can get the time from the windows2003 box (not a domain)Today i was realizing that several Win XP and/or Vista boxes seems to have problems getting the time.If i try to force the sync by clicking "Sync now" it ends up with:XP: An error happenend while syning time with IP/Name of our ntp-server --> (windows2003 box)Vista: Time was rejected as Stratum of the peer is smaller then Stratum of the host.now its getting interessting.From my point of view there is: level 1 = official ntp server poolslevel 2: servers synced from level 1............Well my Windows 2003 box should be level 2, based on that conclusion.Now how can a Windows Vista setup think it has a smaller value then my ntp-box ?Shouldnt errors while syncing appear in the Systme Event log ?I have to sync linux, mac & windows boxes and it seems like only the windows boxes do have problems.What would you recommend ?Is there a way to hard-code the stratum level of XP & vista clients ? i.e. defining client stratum value to 12 or similar which should be more then enough to ensure that it accepts the time from our ntp.Any other solution in mind ?
