cursor self-spacing, scrolling haywire

Hiya

New computer, running XP Home.

Getting 2 problems intermittently.

Open a Notepad file (or others) and the cursor starts moving as though I were holding down the space bar.

When I try to close the window the three choices come up: Save changes, Don't Save, Cancel. "Save" is faded, but is still the only one that works. Click on it and the window closes.

Other thing is I go to some web pages and instantly jump to the bottom of the page. When I try to scroll up with the bar or the mouse, it just jitters up and down and still ends up on the bottom.

Computer came with McAfee, so I ran that and an online Symantec scan, showed no viruses.

Anybody know what this is, or how to make it go away?

(Tried the WhatTheTech forum, only suggestion so far is to consult the manufacturer. Which I suppose I will do at some point. Oh, and I will try changing mouse and keyboard and report here on any result or lack thereof. All I can think of).

Couple hours later.....OK, I've changed to the mouse and keyboard (Dell) that came with this computer. Five minutes ago and neither of those things has happened.

But there's another one (which happened before the switch, too) --------------> Intermittently, again, the toolbars at the top of webpages kind of roll themselves upwards into invisibility. At least they reappear if I put the mouse cursor to the top of the page. But is this normal? Is it a setting?

I can get around this stuff, some of it better than others, but it doesn't seem correct.

I can only suggest that if it's new do as suggested, and contact the manufacturer. :D

Reads like something really heavy has been dropped on the keyboard and some of the springs have been broken. I'd follow andsome's advice and return it if I were you, before they tell you it was you that broke them!

By this time you may have solved your problem. However, others who read this may be looking for a solution. Just recently replaced my monitor. Failed after 6 years. However, I noticed something that I never thought of. It seems some of my problems, such as cursor jumping around for no reason has stopped. It was not the fault of the operating system of the computer, but because the monitor itself was at fault. If you think about it, yes, the monitor does control what happens on the screen when there are these erratic visual problems. It will be some time before I can say for sure that a bad monitor can cause problems you think are computer operating system problems. Consider the age of your monitor. It may be the problem.
