Computer takes forever to resume from standby

Recommended Posts

Why is it that on my computer, when it goes into standby, and you go to shake the mouse or tap the keyboard, the computer wakes up, but nothing shows up on the screen for a long time, in fact, the screen still stays off for a while, with a yellow light. So, I force shut the computer down, then turn it on, (I am running vista on this HD) and it says resuming or something like that, then a while later, it goes to my user account screen, and it says "Locked" under it, even though I just force shut it down. So then I just type my password, then it loads my desktop.

BTW, the same thing happens on the XP HD, (my computer has 2 HD's, I turn one on at a time in BIOS to boot from) Only on the XP side, it doesn't take quit as long, and I don't have to force shut it down like vista. It still takes a long time though on the XP side.

Why is it doing this?

Thanks! :D

I don't know about Vista, but XP should take less than 1 minute to resume from Hibernate or Stand-by. Did you run CheckDisk as I advised you? This will check all sectors on your hard disk for faults and replace any system files that were damaged as a result.
