I.E. 7.0 won't open certain pages

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and had a question that I'm hoping someone can answer. Beginning a week or so ago I have been unable to access certain sites such as cnn.com and pgatour.com. I've searched on the web and can't find any real information on this problem. I've downloaded the most recent updates from I.E. 7.0, but it hasn't helped. Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone help me figure out what I need to do? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

People have have had various problems with IE7. Have you had a a look at the IE7 Help Page? Anyway, many have found their problems solved by uninstalling IE7, then downloading it again and installing the new version with all anti-virus/malware utilities disabled. (When you uninstall IE7, IE6 takes over again.) You'll need to switch them on again once you've installed to complete the installation and setup.

Alternatively use Firefox or Opera - both free browsers.

Microsoft are going to loose a lot of customers to these other browsers if IE8 isn't much more problem free than IE7. IE6 runs well, but its settings need a lot of adjusting to make it more it more secure.

jaf0813, if you haven't yet fixed this problem with any of the suggestions made so far, please tell us what exactly happens when you try to access these pages.

Internet Connection Settings--

If you notice a problem connecting to websites, it might be because the upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 changed your Internet connection settings from what they were set at in Internet Explorer 6. To work around the problem, follow these steps:

  1. Open Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Connections tab.
  3. Click the first entry in the Dialup and Virtual Private Networks list, and then click Settings.
  4. Select the Automatically detect settings check box, and then click OK.
  5. Repeat the previous two steps for each entry in the Dialup and Virtual Private Networks list.
  6. Click the Lan Settings button in the Connections tab, and repeat steps 4-6. Click OK on the Connections tab.
  7. Close Internet Explorer, and then restart it.

I just found the above information HERE. I hope it helps. :)

I'm new here as well! Hi!

Anyways, I too have experienced the same problem with IE7. I had researched for the longest time and tried to correct the problem. I agree with another one of this replies to switch to Firefox. (Which I absolutely Love!) Its so customizable and I haven't had one problem with it at all. Another alternative you can try is the new Safari. It has many of the same features as Firefox and the resolution (I think that's what you'd call it) for many websites is really great. Oh and I work with Vista and Firefox and Safari works great! I often switch between the two.

Good luck to you :)
