ryanz Posted May 26, 2008 Report Share Posted May 26, 2008 I had to install a new motherboard on my computer because the one i had out fried.After it was installed we had to reboot the system by using the recovery disks. Now i have the activate windows notice, and when i click on it its blank. Can anyone help? I can give you my diagnostics if it helps. Dencandy Posted May 26, 2008 Report Share Posted May 26, 2008 Presumably you are getting the activation screen because you've made a major change to you system. What happens after the blank screen? ryanz Posted May 26, 2008 Author Report Share Posted May 26, 2008 Dencandy - Nothing happens at or after the blank activate windows screen, I can take a screenshot of it if you would like me to. I tryed booting in safe mode but it made no difference. We did the reinstall after we put in the new motherboard, so what would doing it again make a difference? pa1916 Posted May 26, 2008 Report Share Posted May 26, 2008 Activate via the phone click on this option,ALWAYS SAY IT'S ONLY ON ONE COMPUTER and say you had a hard drive replacement or a system crash.You might have to reinstall again activation screen should not be blank or not responding. If after installing the new motherboard you did a repair you are simply making a few repairs to the old set-up. But Windows is now confused because it expects almost exactly the old set-up, including the old motherboard. This is probabably why Windows is not working properly.If, however, you did a reinstall Windows will start from scratch and set itself up in line with the new set-up, including the new motherboard.In your first post you said you did a repair of Windows. Now you are using the term reinstall. Do you see the difference? Unless anyone else has got any bright ideas, I'm pretty sure you are going to have to reinstall Windows again (in effect, to wipe everything and start again from the beginning).Microsoft have a detailed account of how to reinstall Windows here, if you don't know how to do it. You won't be able to do all the stuff about backing up your data beforehand, but you may be able to recover some data afterwards using recovery software like recova.
