I closed it up and walked down two flights of stairs to go to my next class. When I opened it, the machine was broken. Didn't drop it, bump it, ect.Windows boots to the password screen. When i type in the hit enter, it takes about 3 hours to load the desktop. Mouse still works fine. When it finally loads, I can still do things, but they take hours to load. For example, I can open Firefox but it will take over an hour. I can open My Computer but that takes over two hours. I was thinking clean install but don't want to overwrite data. This seems like a hardware issue to me, but it is weird because I just closed my computer and walked down the stairs between when it was working and not. I can still access everything on my harddrive, although very slowly. My RAM is less than 8 month old Kingston, so I don't think it is that. You are right, already tried repair install with recovery disc and it wouldn't work. I think my harddrive is shot. I can hear it spinning and sounding like it is trying to do the same thing over and over. Any decent way to check this? (preferably a disc i can boot to)?I am certain it is not virus or spyware. I have scanned since the problem started and it came up clean. Also, the way it was working fine and then 10 minutes later is was broken leads me to think it wasn't a virus.
