Locke Posted June 9, 2008 Report Share Posted June 9, 2008 Hi, I went over to my neighbors house because he was having problems starting up his computer. So I start it up, and it says that Windows had a problem (how common) and wanted to know whether i wanted to start it normally, or go into safe mode, or go into the settings that worked last. I chose that one and it appeared to be starting normally, with the XP loading screen but then it just restarts. I tried running a linux live cd but it wont start up. However, in that startup process for the livecd, it did say that the hard drive was "dirty" and to run chdsk in windows. I'm thinking that the only way to solve this is a full format and restore. Seshomaru Samma Posted June 10, 2008 Report Share Posted June 10, 2008 your Linux Cd probably told you to fsck (file system check) you can do it with the Live CD if you tell me the distro I can guide you throughI'm sure you can run chdsk in some DOS mode in Windows as well can you log in in safe mode?if not you can get a DOS prompt using an XP install CD Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
