doug
You may have something scheduled to run at about that time, e.g. a virus scanner. when it happens press Cntrl/Alt/Delete buttons together - the 3 finger salute. This will show what is running Applications, Processes etc. If it's a routine scanner just schedule it to run at a more convenient time. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
The first thing you should do is to check what process uses 100% CPU; start Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) then check the Processes tab.P.S. Sorry, Doug, I didn't see your more detailed post before mine.
-pops-
It could also be the Windows "disk indexing" system which is supposed to make everything fast - in fact in a number of computers (possibly yours) it does exactly the opposite.Have a look at: http://www.astahost.com/info.php/disk-inde...eeds_t3827.html
