ithonicfury
I have a computer running XP, and all of a sudden it started messing with the keyboard.I turned off and moved the computer, and when I hooked it back up and turned it on my keyboard no longer works (its usb.) I've tried several different keyboards, usb or ps2 via a usb converter and they all do they same thing. When I plug in the keyboard, Windows will recognize it, and the first found new hardware balloon that comes up is "Dell USB Keyboard" and once that balloon goes away the keyboard works for about 30 seconds, then Windows re-recognizes it and then in the device manager it just shows up as "HID-compliant device" and wont work anymore unless I update drivers on it and change it to "HID Keyboard Device".It gets annoying having to change that any time I unplug it, or switch keyboards or something. Is there any way to tell Windows to always use HID Keyboard Device for keyboards, or fix it so Windows doesn't try and re-recognize the keyboards?Ive tried uninstalling it in the device manager, uninstalling everything under Universal Serial Bus Controllers and rebooting and several other things, but can't get Windows to properly play nice with keyboards. Nothing was changed between the time it was working last and when it started messing up, no new hardware or software.
Dencandy
I don't know if this is relevent in your case, but it's very important to follow the proper procedure when removing a device from a USB connection: i.e. hover the curser over the USB icon in the System Tray and follow the instructions. If you don't do this not only can you loose data & corrupt drivers but can physically dammage the USB connector, so I've been advised.I think you've tried completely uninstalling the device and driver and starting from scratch, but have you tried the keyboard manufacturers' websites for help or Microsoft Help & Support (HERE)? Just type "keyboard problems" into the box and follow the links.
