xeronic Posted June 25, 2008 Report Share Posted June 25, 2008 I just got my new computer last weekAMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 64 bit Dual Core Processor 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800 500GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 8MB Cache 7200RPM HDD 20X DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Drive Dual LayerNVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 620mbWindows Vista Home Premium NVIDIA nForce 560 SLI Chipset ASUS M2N SLI I'll use images to helpeverything was working fine until last night when i noticed my DVD-RW and CD-RW drives not working. They are listed as both CD-ROM'shttp://img237.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture003qq2.jpgI just get I/o Device errorhttp://img237.imageshack.us/img237/8613/picture004hh8.jpgMany hours of looking for a fix, i could not find one. Cables are connected fine, jumpers are fine, and they even read on the device list, and show up. However, they have symbols in the name of the device, notice the % symbols. Also when in BIOS, the DVD and CD ROMS are even mispelled worse, with symbols and letters of the manufacturer, in this case Optiarc. My guess was the driver, since it looks out of date.http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/818/picture002nm1.jpgbut i could not find a "driver" for the DVD and CD roms. I thought maybe the chipset driver got rolledback? so i updated the nforce 560 chipset driver to the 1/25/2008 version... didn't help.as i said, i looked for a fix over many sites, and a lot of them mentioned the ATA controllers, and the settings it's on. Well, people have said a fix might be to uncheck the "Enable DMA"... but it didn't work either.http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/8530/picture005ee8.jpgi really don't know what to do. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.7.
