Scarthy © ® ™
Hi all :D ,I have used Roxio ECDC Basic since I got my computer. I got an OEM disc supplied with my writer. I mainly use it for backing up my documents etc using Direct CD.What I wanted to know was...Could I also use Nero on my computer at the same time? I don't want the IN-CD software, as it is not compatible with my writer, just the main programs...So will the 2 run side by side or will they clash and mess about with each other???Thanx in advance for any replies....
Guest ellas
can I ask why would you want to do this.
mark2
I've seen this question once or twice and apparently so long as you don't install INCD they should work happily side by side, but have you checked the ahead site for any updates to the compatibility list
Scarthy © ® ™
Because...1) Everyone seems to think that Nero is a lot better than Roxio for burning etc.2) I want to be able to burn 90min CD-R's.3)I am thinking of switching to Nero anyway and wanted to keep the DirectCD part of Roxio for my backing up as the Nero In-CD is not compatible with my writer (I also have several DirectCD formatted CD-RW's that I don't want to waste). :D
Guest Cookie
Scarthy. Uninstall ECDC and get Nero, far superior in every respect. Not one failure since changing over. :D

Scarthy © ® ™
I use DirectCD from the Roxio ECDC Basic software to write (drag and drop) CD/RW's. Are you saying that I could do this from XP without the software???
madboy33
yes you canput a CD-RW in drive, open a folder and drag and drop it into the CD-RW folder, then click on the tab that sais write these files to cdmadboy33
madboy33
the software that it uses funilly enough is roxiomadboy33
Scarthy © ® ™
Thanx madboy33, ;) Yes I know this method but you cannot delete individual files this way. I think you have to wipe the whole disc. The DirectCD software allows you to treat the CD/RW's like you would a floppy disc. You can add/ remove files as and when you want to. :D

bsod
Hi Scarthy.Yes I can confirm that you can run roxio and nero on x\p. I downloaded the update patch from roxio, it takes take 2 from the system. I also downloaded the latest patch for nero. I now have the option of either burning a disk from nero or from roxio. Both work well together. :D The only thing maybe, is that I have both full versions and not demo's.

mark2
It removes the roxio program 'take two ' as this clashes with XP and causes MAJOR ie non booting problems

bsod
Scarthy. Sorry M8 been a bit busy. Yes as mark2 says it gets rid of the prog " take two". Bloody thing never worked properly anyway.I downloaded "ecdc_v5.1_plt" from roxio ( 17.7Mb.) and Nero 5.582 ( 12.8Mb.).The thing to remember is to install the software that recognizes your burner first, reboot and then install the other software. If the you are on 56k like me, sob. I can burn them on a disk and either post them via Windows Forum, if they let me or straight to you?If you do want me to do this just e-mail me and I will post first class Monday. ;) Regards bsod. bsod
Just a follow on. I have been burning some audio disks for a friend all weekend, he has a new c\d player for his car and wanted some back up. His burner, a lg 8x4x32 has been playing up lately so i have burned about 12 disks with my favorite nero.As I have not used roxio for a while, I have just backed up my docs and other things. The burn was flawless. I use a 40x12x48 liteon. :D
