just_some_guy Posted June 27, 2008 Report Share Posted June 27, 2008 Hello,I just bought a wireless adapter PCI card for my Windows XP SP2 computer; I installed the card and ran the installation disk which installed the drivers and some config software. I used to connect to the internet through an Ethernet cable only, but I have moved the computer away from the router. When I try to connect to using the Windows Control panel - I enter my WEP key etc as windows can see and scan for available networks. But it says "Limited or No Connectivity". So I right-click and select repair and it says -following action cannot be competed:Renewing your IP addressWhat can I do to fix this? If not, you may need to enter an IP address manually.I think so, i have another Windows XP SP2 Desktop that is connected to the router via Ethernet and a Windows Vista SP1 Laptop that is wirelessly connected to the router. Scarecrow Man Posted June 27, 2008 Report Share Posted June 27, 2008 Well, you should be able to enter an address manually, although that is not a proper solution.If it is a Linksys router, by default 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.254 is your DHCP pool. Setting it as 192.168.1.105 for example should be safe, as the computers should have already used 101, 102.Are you using a 3rd party utility built into the laptop to connect to the wireless, or are you using the Windows Wireless connection utility?Make sure you have good signal strength, because low signal will mean you are not connected properly. just_some_guy Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Share Posted June 27, 2008 Hello,I manually typed the IP Address, Gateway and Subnet Mask so the data was the same as my existing desktop which can access the internet. I also typed in my DNS Server IP. Windows now says that it is connected although i still cannot access the interenet through IE. I ping'd my IP address and sent 4 packets and recived 4 packets. I ping'd my Default Gateway and sent 4 packets but recived 0 packets. I also switched off Windows Firewall and uninstalled the software that came with the PCI card and made sure that i had the drivers installed - still says connected but still cant access the Interenet. I also cleared out all the tempory files using Windows Clean Up. I used the inbuilt Windows Connection Utitilty to connect my laptop.Thanks and what should I do? Scarecrow Man Posted June 27, 2008 Report Share Posted June 27, 2008 Looks like something is wrong with the wireless card itself. Set everything back to automatic.
