Cant set wallpaper

Hi im trying to help my partner with a problem with adding a desktop pic on her pc when i goto display properties the list if images is not accesable. I used to be able to right click a jpeg and set it as desktop background and that dont work either also in the desktop properties the browse tab isnt active for me to browse if anyone knows how to solve this problem it be much appreaciated ....thanks dave oops almost forgot she has xp pro ..

Hi Dave.

Start>Run>Regedit>OK

Now navigate to the following :-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Active­­Desktop DWord Value: NoChangingWallPaper

Settings: 1 = Can't change Wallpaper

0= Can change Wallpaper

If you are not used to messing about with the registry, - leave it alone, and find someone who is.

This sort of behaviour can also be due to Trojan / Virus activity, so give it a good scan.

Look for any recently installed programs that could have altered anything. Perhaps using "System Restore" to get back to a time when things were working ok.

Thanks for your reply maneman, i went into the registry and everything is set to 0, so its more likely a trojan virus ,so i have Macafee total protection installed and it is not detecting anything :( would you know of any other free scanners out there that you could recommend. thanks Dave

Try - http://housecall.trendmicro.com/. This could be something your system administrator has disabled on purpose, not a virus.
