cboom4250
I have a Linksys WRT54GS that has stopped functioning properly. My father used it in his house for about a year and gave it to me in hopes that I could use it at my new apartment. The problem I'm encountering is the lack of Internet connectivity. I can connect to the router wirelessly using the SSID and I can connect to the "192.168.1.1" address so that I can configure it on a wire-connected computer, but I have NO internet. I've tried just about everything I can think of (firmware is up to date, changed various settings within the router, reset the router multiple times, etc). I attempted to return the router to my father's computer, and it won't connect to the internet either. I can still access 192.168.1.1, but nothing else.Any ideas or suggestions? Proteus
A friend of mine uses a linksys wireless router and he had trouble getting internet on 2 pcs at the same time. after trying a lot of different things the problem turned out to be as simple as the modem was connected to the wrong slot on the back of the router. That problem was slightly different because we could get it to connect to the internet on 1 pc but not 2.if you havent already just double check that everything is connected correctly, then check again. between us we'd gone over the connections about 3-4 times but never in enough detail obviously....was more like they looked ok at a glance and the wires werent faulty. Scarecrow Man
Depends on your ISP. If you use a broad band connection that requires a connection (PPPOE) you have to program this into the router. If you use an always-on service like Cable, you may not need to program anything. Just reboot the equipment.
cboom4250
i've tried everything listed and still nothing works. somehow -- how, i don't know -- but, i think my father's computer is "killing" the routers. he bought a new Netgear that worked for a day and then stopped -- same symptoms as the linksys routers.
