PartitionMagic and Vista

According to the web site, no. It is for W2000 and XP only.

Partitioning is regarded as being something of a pointless exercise nowadays. With hard drives being so cheap (and big) it is not much greater cost the install a separate hard drive than it is to buy Partition Magic. Of course, if you did want to partition your new hard drive, you can do that from within Windows.

Obviously you know what you want to do and why you want to do it but, it escapes me.

Even with dedicated partitioning software there is always a risk of the operation failing (I know, it happened to me).

If I had to do this sort of thing the procedure I might follow is buy a new hard drive (for the £40 or so that PM costs) and clone your "C" drive followed by the other partition into the same partition on the new drive (if you follow). This way, if things go wrong, you still have your system as it was before. If it goes right then all you need to do is swap the new drive for the existing "C" drive. You can then reformat the old drive for other uses.

Not that you cannot just transfer your "C" drive to another one in the same way that you would copy a file. I has to be done by "cloning". There is lots of software available to do this, some free, some costs.

i just got a new laptop and it comes with a recovery partition. i have made the recovery dvds and now i would like to rid myself of the partition and want to merge it with the main partition without losing data like partitionmagic was able to do in XP. is the built-in partition software that comes with vista able to do this?
