Un-needed drivers-install or not???

Recommended Posts

have a laptop that has hardware I don't need, Bluetooth, fingerprint scanner, etc. From a performance standpoint I'm wondering if I should just NOT install the drivers, and let Windows wonder what they are, or install them as normal and then have to go into the individual programs and shut down their actual usage.

Just wondering which would cause more overhead for Windows, Not knowing what the devices are, or running them but just shutting their functions down.

Thanks for any opinion.

If this software came as an integral part of your machine - that is you didn't install it yourself - then it would be better to leave it as it is.

Very often, laptops have their own version of an operating system and these "extras" could be part of that such that some unexpected or unlikely program could depend on this software for other functions.

It's a Toshiba, and their OEM version of Vista is a bloated pig....therefor I'm running a clean install and so I don't HAVE to install the drivers that I don't need.

Again, since I will never use them, I'm wondering if there is a performance advantage either way....

I agree with this post:

But since you're doing a fresh OS installation you can leave them out, and if you have any problems THEN install them. I did this and didn't have any problem. But if u want a device to be 'ready for action', install its driver and disable the device. e.g. I do not normally use my Wi-Fi since I have an Ethernet pluged-in, but its handy to have the Wi-fi ready when on the move.
