XP doesn't recognize SATA drive

Recommended Posts

Just bought a seagate barracuda 500GB SATA drive and installed it on my AMD machine.

Mobo ASUS A8V Deluxe.

Drive appears in BIOS.

I have SATA settings in BIOS set to run in IDE immulation mode. (I'm not setting up a RAID).

XP (svc pk2) doesn't recognize or show the drive in My Computer, Device Manager, or Disk Management.

I read something about having to put SATA drivers on a floppy in order for XP to use the drive?

That can't be right can it? A floppy ????

Please point me in the right direction.

I appreciate the link.

Here are my questions.

A) It is cited numerous times in the link that this is done during an installation of XP.

I am not installing XP nor do I intend to reinstall it.

I want to get my existing OS to recognize the SATA drive.

I still have my original XP disc, can I put it in and just install what is needed?

Any ideas there?

Or any other way to get XP to recognize the drive?

I read through all of this last night. The trouble shooter is not very effective in my opinion.

It tells you how to trouble shoot your drive if it is recognized by your operting system. Obvliously that won't apply here.

I do appreciate the links, I don't mean to sound "snippy", I'm just really frustrated at this point.

Further advise is welcomed, hell I'm practically begging for it!!

Does appear as "unkown hardware" or doesn't it appear at all?

If it appears as an unkown device/hardware, right click-> update driver-> use the driver on the CD.

If the device does not appear at all, try to use the HP driver (this is the best i could find on google!)

you can do a couple of things, which are listed in the readme that opens after the short setup/unpack procedure. (remember where you unpacked it!)

good luck with it! :D
