Hi forum,

I have a problem getting my printer to work this is the setup i have.

My Printer is connected to a linux server which has a static ip address of 192.168.1.100.

My laptop has windowsXP and connects wireless to the internet.

When i try to add a printer to my laptop using printing over the internet i put the ip address of the printer in the URL box, http://192.168.1.100:631/printers/Deskjet_D4200_series . I get the printer icon showing up in printers and faxes box but when i click on the printer properties it does not show the properties box. In the end it does not responed and i have to end the task using task manager.

I have never seen a printer specified as a http:// address; I usually specify printers as \\server\printer

Wouldn't http:// specification require a web server on the target location?

Hi pat,

I didnt know that i had to use \\server\printer i will change that and see if it works thanks
