computer slow

hi there my computer has a problem , when i switch the computer on, and it starts up it takes quite long to load desk top programs, and then when i open internet explorer it takes about 2 minutes before it opens up, but once it opens up i can browse the net ok, i have updated my drivers, any advice would be welcome,

Is this slowness a new thing or has boot-up gradually got slower over time ?

Is your system tray full of icons from programs auto-starting ?

Do you have up-to-date anti-virus software and have you run a recent scan for malware ?

Do you use applications like Ccleaner to clear things out ?

Have you de-fragmented recently ?

Download, install, and run Startup Inspector. Click 'Consult' to get some info on the startup items. Disable those who you think you don't need. If you are unsure, ask here.

Download it from here http://www.ccleaner.com/. Before you run it, go to Options | Cookies, and configure the login cookies you want to keep. Don't run the registry cleaner ("Issues"), but if you do, make a registry backup first (ERUNT).

I would normally never disagree with Pat, certainly not about his views on registry cleaners in general. I have tried one or two with disastrous results. However I must personally disagree with him regarding the registry cleaner in C Cleaner. I run C Cleaner at least three times a week, as after the first use it runs in a matter of a few seconds, once the initial clean up has got rid of all the accumulated crap. I then also run the registry cleaner, as in the case of C Cleaner you can accept the option of putting a back up link into 'My Documents'. Leave the back up for a few days to ensure that there are no ensuing problems, then delete it. To date, ever since I have been using this wonderful program, I have NEVER ONCE needed the back up. :D

The few times I have actually run CCleaner's registry cleaner, I did not have any problems whatsoever.

However - hanging occasionally out at the CCleaner Forum, I have seen some threads where users claim to have lost everything after running the registry cleaner. It is very rare, but when it happens, there is a lot of screaming going on.

A full registry backup will prevent any such disasters (merely restoring the backed-up items may not resolve anything, especially when the reg-cleaner is run repeatedly). As always: better safe than sorry, and a registry backup with ERUNT takes only a few minutes.

done that its still the same after task bar loads up, when i click on internet explorer it can take upto 5 minits before opening,but once it opens it works ok
