Windows Media Player/QuickTime problem

To make a long story short...a few weeks ago, I had gotten some sort of error and microsoft reccomended that I do (i can't remember what it was called) to restore things and check for errors. I'm sure you computer savvy people know what I'm talking about.

Anyways, ever since then, my windows media player 11 and QuickTime 7 won't work! Could this also have anything to do with Service Pack 3 that was automatically updated for me?? Should I go back to SP2 and is there a way to do that?

If these AREN'T the problems...any suggestions?? My itunes won't work because my quicktime is out of service.

Welcome to the Windows Forum.

It's probably a System Restore you did. But that should not disable your players.

Can you open Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and see if you can do a Repair Install on them?

If not, can you try to download QuickTime and install it again? (I don't know about Media Player 11.)

Wont be SP3 anyway as mine is okay - I have Media Player 11 and another player - QTime I think. No problems.

Did you do a system restore - because that should not do anything to hurt your players.

Me - I always download and keep the latest program in a file I call Programs loaded so when anything happens - I can then uninstall and reinstall to see if that fixes things.

"ansome taught me that - I have another file that is downloads and move them once installed.

good tip - wait for the experts though. Most of what I know I learned on this forum.

(I don't know about Media Player 11.)

Media Player 11 can also easily be uninstalled from Add/Remove programs. A new install can then be done from the Microsoft website.

Okay...I found something else that may be related to my windows media player/quick time prob??? Of course, I'm not expert so that's where all of You come in!

I tried to go to my computer, add/remove programs and do the repair thing like someone recommended. It couldn't fix the quick time. It popped up "fatal error while installing"

So, then I tried to go to the add/remove windows components just to see what was in there and I got....

"setup library msmqocm.dll could not be loaded, or function MsmqOcm could not be found. Contact your system administrator. The specific error code is Ox7e.

Oh...FYI, I had done a registry clean..not a system restore if that helps.

One more thing if anyone is still reading these... I just tried to degragment my harddrive and got the message that some files could not be defragmented. So, I viewed the report and it says:

there are 47 fragments, the file size is 78mb \WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386\.driver.cab

That error you got in Add/Remove Programs - did you get that for both QT and WMP?

If you cannot uninstall some program(s), I recommend using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove the faulty installation data, then install the program again from scratch.
