Laptop randomly turning off

Recommended Posts

A few months ago, and without realizing it, I stupidly tried to run a program that required double the VRAM than I had. I did this twice, both times, the computer just shut off mid program. I removed it, and in the time since, the laptop will still on occasion just turn off. Usually it's during a video, but now, not always. Sometimes it's not doing anything and it will shut off. Is this a hardware issue? Does it have anything to do with the VRAM? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure you mean VRAM ?

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_random_access_memory

In the late 1990s, standard DRAM technologies (e.g. SDRAM) became cheap, dense, and fast enough to completely displace VRAM, even though it was only single-ported and some memory bits were wasted.

That hasn't been around for 10 years ?

Do you mean your Page File ?

What model/spec is the laptop ?

You say that your virtual memory wasn't big enough ?

Did you know that you can manually alter the size of your virtual memory (Paging File) to whatever you like - limited by the amount of spare H/D space, but normally 1.5 times installed RAM is a good figure to use.
