Need to activate my copy of Windows

The copy I installed (XP Pro) is perfect for me but had no key with it and is currently inactivated. Please tell me:

If I get a new licence only, not related to my installation, will it work, or do I need to get a new CD as well?

I've never been able to install XP without the product key during the install. Anyway, you need a new XP Pro key, or one from a retired PC. If the online activation doesn't work, the phone activation likely will (although it is slow).

If you get an OEM product key, you often need an OEM install disc during installation......I've had this happen. I have an OEM SP1 disc, so when I reinstall my OEM machines, it won't let me use my newer discs...I have to install the old version then install the SP's later.

I am having the same problem.... my cd came with no product key....is there anyway possible to activate?

If your copy of the Windows CD came without its product key, take it back and insist on a replacement that does have this essential part.

As far as I am aware, it is illegal to sell such a CD without an product key. :D

all OEM PC's come with the key on a sticker somewhere on the machine, often hidden inside of a door. Just worked on a Compaq that had this really Cheesy CD holder on the front, and the sticker was stuck in there. It was only by accident that I opened the holder and noticed the sticker.
