Hyperlinks opening in wrong browser

Hi

My first post.

My default browser is Firefox 3. E-Mail client is Thunderbird. My default Home Page is www.google.co.uk.

Until a few days ago everything was ok. Now, when I click on ANY hyperlink, instead of the page opening in Firefox, this happens..

1. My home page opens in Internet Explorer

2. The hyperlinked page opens in IE

This happens simultaneously although, as one would expect, IE takes an inordinate time to open the pages.

Can anyone explain this and offer a solution?

I cannot offer a solution. I do however wonder what you mean when you state that as one would expect, IE takes an inordinate time to open a web page. I use IE exclusively, having tried FF and found that I did not like it. IE open new web pages on my computer instantaneously, the delay is not measurable. Have you tried uninstalling FF and then reinstalling it? Have you tried a system restore to a time before the problem? Do you have a back up in a program like Acronis, where you could install a mirror image taken when the computer ran as it should run? :D

to make firefox and thunderbird your defaults:

(1a) --- >>> for Firefox:

tools -> options -> general -> default browser -> place a check in the box to the left of "Firefox should check....." -> then press "check now" -> then "ok"

(1b) --- >>> for Thunderbird:

tools -> option -> general -> general setting -> place a check in the box to the left of "Use thunderbird as your default email ......" and /or -> place a check in the box to the left of "Use thunderbird as your default news ......" -> then "ok"

(2) --- Use "internet options" and/or winXP "set program access and defaults".

(3) --- In "internet options" make sure that the box does not have a check for "IE should check to see whether it is the default browser".

Many many thanks. It would seem I had both checking themselves for default. Stupid of me.

andsome - The browsing experience you describe (intantaneous opening) is what I like about Firefox, but admit since upgrading to v3 it seems different. But I've never enjoyed this with any version of IE. Slow beyond belief and simply hangs too often, but I need it occasionally as it is better integrated with some sites. Even from startup, if I click on IE I may as well go and make coffee. I wonder if it is affected by other software I have loaded, some of which I'm told is optimised for Firefox. My sincere thanks for the time and effort you took to reply.

Could be right of course. I really don't know enough to pass judgement. I only know that I have no problems with IE at all. Glad you got things fixed. :D
