DPod41
I have a dell xps 600 and a friend of mine recently installed Windows Xp 64 bit or whatever over my original Windows Xp installation. I woke up the next day and I noticed the keyboard does not work. I unplugged and replugged my keyboard into the machine and it says.."Dell Keyboard" and then after a while goes away". In device manager it says "HID Keyboard Device" with an exclamation point to the left. The keyboard works in bios and I've also tried using a ps/2 keyboard. The keyboard works all the way up to the Windows loading screen, then the cap lock and num lock lights get locked. My friend left for New York today and I have no way to reach him. I read somewhere that I might need a 64 bit driver for all my hardware. On the back of my Dell keyboard it says "KEYBOARD MODEL: RT7D50" I've posted in a number of other forums and I am still having this problem. I've visited the dell website and installed the drivers given but none seem to be specifically for keyboards. In device manager it says HID Keyboard Device. When I try to update the driver it says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" Any ideas how to fix my problem? Or perhaps you can tell me where to find a 64 bit driver? Thanks in advance.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum.First question: is it a USB or PS/2 keyboard? In the Device Manager, the device with the yellow exclamation point, can you open it and tell us the error number? Also, can you try to follow the trouble shooter in there?P.S. Sorry, you already mentioned the error number (code 39). Can you try to delete (uninstall) that device, then reboot Windows to see if it installs a new driver? I'm sure Windows x64 has a 64-bit standard keyboard driver.P.P.S. DPod41
I am currently trying to get a usb keyboard working on the computer but if I got any keyboard to work that would be great. I followed the troubleshooter but I'm still stuck with the problem. Windows Update didn't help either. Is there a way to corrupt a driver like the device manager thing noted? Maybe I have the current driver and Windows thinks that everything is ok but the driver is corrupt. Is there a way to download that specific driver? Windows Update just gave me some update for my video card. Or am I missing something? Is there a way to look for specific drivers on Windows Update? ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
STandard keyboard drivers should really be part of the operating system, even 64-bit Windows. So I don't think that you can download a standard keyboard 64-bit driver anywhere, even at DELL. That's why I was hoping that Windows Update would offer you anything. What I would try if I were in your situation:- try to uninstall the faulty/corrupt driver, then reboot Windows, in the hope that it would detect the keyboard and install the correct driver.- go and buy a new keyboard (e.g. Microsoft or Logitech) and make sure that it comes with a 64-bit driver. wkman
Follow the "Manual Fix" instructions at this site. http://blog.ryantadams.com/2008/01/18/keyb...rivers-code-39/Was having same problem and after searching for hours, this fixed my problem. Where it says to type stuff, since my keyboard didn't work, I just copied and pasted letters into the run box until I spelled regedit. Youcan also run the onscreen keyboard display by copying osk in the run command box. Hope this helps.
fieldts
I am having a problem as well with my dell keyboard rt7d50 not working, I can use it to access my BIOS and anything in the boot sequence however as soon as I enter windows I get a little light in the shape of a lock that has a number 9 in the middle of it. I can not use any key for anything on the keyboard, I have windows password so I can not even get into my computer far enought to use the OSK. I have been looking for about an hour online for answers before I found this site, it is a brand new keyboard so I am really just lost. You got anything for me? Sbrideau
I would personally get back on XP 32bit. From what I've read( and seen a little as well on friend's computers), it has a lot of compatibility problems, and apparently your keyboard could be one of the multiple compatibility problems you will have. XP 64bit was made for companies, that's why they didn't make it so that all programs could be used.Starting with Vista and Windows 7, almost all programs work.Don't quote me on that though, that's what I've read.
