We have 2 computers in our office with windows XP pro that are shared by multiple people. We have an admin user account with complete control and 2 or 3 users that have limited access. We installed a program on the admin, but none of the other users can access it to utilize. Is there a way to allow them access to it? also, we have some folders the others need to share as well. Basically, we only need the user accounts so they can view and utilize all folders and programs, but not be able to add or delete programs.Anyone? Basically, we only need the user accounts so they can view and utilize all folders and programs, but not be able to add or delete programs.Anyone?Log in as administrator and find the folder where the .exe file sits for the software, right click and select properties, sharing and security, allow access to the users you wish, then get them to navigate to the folder and copy the shortcut to there desktop!! If you pick the former then the shortcut to the .exe file which you normally see under Start -> Program is stored in C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Start Menu\Programs. (In your case, %USERNAME% is Administrator). Just move the shortcut to C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs (for Start-> Programs) or/and C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Desktop (For desktop shortcut) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Seshomaru Samma Posted October 23, 2008 Report Share Posted October 23, 2008 Which program is that?Sometimes you just need to drag a shortcut from the administrator's account to the user's account to make it work.Sometimes you need to adjust the permissions as frogstyle explained.I did encounter programs that assumed all users have administrator rights and so I had to temporarily grant the user admin rights, reinstall the program using that user's account and then reverting it back to limited user.
