New random username all of a sudden

Hello,

So my computer began running really slow earlier for no apparent reason. I just ran a virus and spyware scan last night as well. So today after its running really sluggishly, I reboot the computer. When it comes to the username screen, not only is my username there, but now there was another username, with ALL numbers and i needed a password to get into the account. By the way, it said computer administrator under their username as well as mine. So i go into my username and go to the user account and I am able to delete the username with the numbers. When i reboot now, that username is gone, and mine is the only one.

Was it really this simple or is it possible my computer was hacked and i need to go into further detail to get rid of anything i need to???

Any help in this topic would be greatly appreciated.

What Operating System are you using ?

What Anti-Virus and Spyware scanners did you use ?

It is difficult to say whether your computer was hacked, but it is a possibility, especially if you have a weak administrator password.

Do you have an active firewall?

Well if your an administrator and have no idea what that account is, just delete it from User Accounts. Afterwards run SpyBot Search and Destroy ...and maybe AVG 8, and if the problem persist try going into Safe Mode and running those apps...or download Avast and schedule a boot time scan.

It's possible that this is the built-in Windows Administrator user account kicking in for some reason although it is normally not visible. Often they are used by computer suppliers so they can access the disk in the event you take it back for a repair, etc.

If you follow the advice about scanning for viruses, etc and no warnings appear, that's probably what it is.

If your computer is still running sluggish after scanning and so on you could check to see what programs are starting up by using Start Up Inspecter Free (http://www.windowsstartup.com/), a handy little program used by many on this forum. It enables you to stop programs like Java update from running every time you start your computer without deleting them. It also has a handy link with Google Search to discover more details about each start-up program.
