brambell Posted November 30, 2008 Report Share Posted November 30, 2008 I need to talk to someone who use's Vista as there O/S.I'am using firefox on the internet and every time I download pictures or software,it puts the file into the download folder. Then I copy the file and paste it in the right folder. The download folder is getting full up now and I would like to empty most of it.My question to you ,is that because I have copyed the files and paste them elsewhere,is it safe to remove the donloads files.Many thanks for taking time to read this. Hb_Kai Posted December 1, 2008 Report Share Posted December 1, 2008 Doesn't Firefox ask you where you want to put the downloaded item(s) ?Yes, but only if you haven't declared a specific directory for the downloads to be saved to, but it also depends on the file you're downloading and if in the script it calls a prompt to select where you want to save, but that would be off the site, not Firefox.Brambell, when you copy a file you make a duplicate of that file, when you paste that file to a new location you are effectively wasting space by making two of the same file yet in different locations.You should set Firefox to save to the location you want (I can't think what this is at the top of my head and I use Safari, not Firefox), also, another way of moving the file is either drag & drop from one folder open in Windows Explorer to another open in Windows Explorer or Cut & Paste.What's that to do with Vista? It's a Firefox question isn't it? By the way - because you have made two copies of the downloaded files you can delete the ones in your first download folder and keep the ones in your second, or vice/versa. Drag-and-drop (right-click drag-and-drop) is much better, as it lets you decide between move and copy. It also doesn't use the clipboard, but copy or move it directly.
