Anyone using Vista

I need to talk to someone who use's Vista as there O/S.

I'am using firefox on the internet and every time I download pictures or software,it puts the file into the download folder. Then I copy the file and paste it in the right folder.

The download folder is getting full up now and I would like to empty most of it.

My question to you ,is that because I have copyed the files and paste them elsewhere,is it safe to remove the donloads files.

Yes, but only if you haven't declared a specific directory for the downloads to be saved to, but it also depends on the file you're downloading and if in the script it calls a prompt to select where you want to save, but that would be off the site, not Firefox.

Brambell, when you copy a file you make a duplicate of that file, when you paste that file to a new location you are effectively wasting space by making two of the same file yet in different locations.

You should set Firefox to save to the location you want (I can't think what this is at the top of my head and I use Safari, not Firefox), also, another way of moving the file is either drag & drop from one folder open in Windows Explorer to another open in Windows Explorer or Cut & Paste.

What's that to do with Vista? It's a Firefox question isn't it?

By the way - because you have made two copies of the downloaded files you can delete the ones in your first download folder and keep the ones in your second, or vice/versa.

That's the problem with copy-and-pasting files or directories. Drag-and-drop (right-click drag-and-drop) is much better, as it lets you decide between move and copy. It also doesn't use the clipboard, but copy or move it directly.

You should set Firefox to save to the location you want ...

It's browser.download.dir;

• type about:config in the Firefox address bar
  
• Click OK
  
• locate key browser.download.dir
  
• right-click and select Modify
  
• type or paste your preferred download location
  

Alternatively you can create a user.js file in your Firefox Profile folder, where you place all your user-changed profile modifications.

Sorry, I don't understand the question - Ctrl+C is Copy, as Ctrl+V is Paste.

Hello. Thanks for your input. It was usefull. What you 2 wrote was the same as I was thinking. Now I can go ahead and delete some of thsee download files.
