Hb_Kai
I'm trying to downgrade a laptop for someone which has Vista, and he wants XP. He has an XP disc, I was just wondering. If I installed it to a second partition and then removed the first leaving only the XP partition, would I still firstly need to download all the drivers? Only problem is he doesn't know what drivers he has on the laptop.
Hb_Kai
Also, would I have to download the drivers for the mouse-pad and keyboard as they're built-in ones?
Boris
You need to make sure you have XP drivers for all hardware in the laptop.

Hb_Kai
Do I have to install it to dual boot first? Can I not just uninstall Vista and put XP on it?
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Take a full backup of the current Vista partition.Make a note (screenshot) of all the device drivers installed.Format the partition and install XP.Restore from backup if anything goes wrong. Hb_Kai
Can I save a backup of a partition to a normal blank CD?
Hb_Kai
No. I asked the wrong question. I've got a Toshiba recovery disc anyway.Would I need to format the partition? Can I just not delete the vista one over all and cover it with the XP OS?
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
One way or another you'll have to format that partition. If you delete it, install will create a new one, which has to be formatted.
