new ram wont allow computer to boot

here is the issue-

i just put in 2 gb of ram(1gb x 2 slots). i had 512 mb total. after removing the 2 old ram cards and installing the 2 new ones the computer fails to boot up. so i put the old cards back in to look for a solution online which i am doing now.

here are the stats-

-computer is a sony pcv-rs 430g

-original ram is 2 x 256mb pc2700 ddr dimm

-new ram is 2 x 1gb pc2700 ddr dimm

any help would be greatly appreciated

Ensure the RAM sticks are exactly right for your motherboard.

Try booting with one of your new sticks in. Try then with the other.

This will sort out if one or both are faulty or unsuitable for your machine.

i tried starting up with just one in one slot then one in the other. still no avail. crucial.com clarifies that these are the right ram for my machine. besides them being the wrong ram i dont know why the computer wouldnt start up.

To avoid confusion (mine!) have you tried:

Stick 1 in slot 1

Stick 1 in slot 2

Stick 2 in slot 1

Stick 2 in slot 2

Also have you tried and old and a new stick together?

Go to www.crucial.com and make sure you put in the correct Ram, and in the correct configuration.

Did you reset your CMOS memory after installing the new ram ?
