Ubuntuser
I'm using an Intel DG43NB motherboard with a Sound Blaster audio card. the problem i'm having is when i plug headphones into the front audio port my sound still comes out the back port. I'm trying to get the headphone port to interrupt the rear port and i'm not sure what to do.

Hb_Kai
Are there any options in the Preferences menu for sound?
Ubuntuser
yes but i dont see anything apparent that would change the headphone port

catgate
I have come across a reference to something similar to this when I put one particular machine together. It was to do with motherboard connections for the sound system, and if the rear in/out were connected, the front ones would not work, or the otherway round. At the time it was unimportant to me so like similar concepts it has become lost in the dark foggy mass lodged between my ears. How a separate sound card affects this I can not begin to imagine. Ubuntuser
I won't be satisfied by just switching my speakers for my headphones each time. but i did some quick diagnostics. even with the speakers unplugged the headphone port dosent work. and even the port from the motherboard dosent work. next i'm going to try disconnecting the sound card.
