Amara Posted January 4, 2009 Report Share Posted January 4, 2009 I have recently noticed that Norton Security Scan keeps installing on my computer seemingly on its own. I remove it with the add/remove programs and it comes back hours later. I also tried to remove it with the Norton Removal Tool and that didn't work either. I have a feeling this got installed with an update I did recently, such as Shockwave. I heard that installs it automatically unless you tell it not to. I am running Windows XP Home. Always be careful to uncheck "offers" for free software when installing new - especially free - programs. If it "comes back", that would classify it as malware! Uninstall Shockwave, then reinstall it without the Norton malware.Report back how it goes. Amara Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Share Posted January 5, 2009 So I uninstalled Norton Security Scan and then uninstalled and re-installed Shockwave and that seems to have fixed the problem. The only thing I noticed now is that when I restarted my computer after installing Shockwave my computer told me it couldn;t find Adobe Shockwave player in a certain location, but I'm not too worried about that; I think the new installation just placed it in a different location.
