ldb88 Posted January 4, 2009 Report Share Posted January 4, 2009 I have a dual boot system with XP Home and Ubuntu, and I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse currently plugged in through USB. It has a PS/2 connector for the mouse, but not for the keyboard. Plugging in the USB works with both. On Ubuntu, at least.I recently got a new motherboard and a stick of RAM to go with it.I boot the machine, and the keyboard and mouse have power (I can change selections in GRUB). But when I select XP, the initial screen with the XP logo and the moving blue bar lags for a couple seconds. Then my keyboard and mouse lose power (I assume that's what happens - all of the lights go off) and the lag stops and XP continues booting. I can only get as far as the logon screen, but it has the wrong resolution as well. I did not change video cards, and it was working with the correct resolution before the new motherboard. Also, the keyboard and mouse were working before the new motherboard.Like I said, it works fine in Ubuntu. Any ideas? Thanks. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Alan2273 Posted January 4, 2009 Report Share Posted January 4, 2009 If you have changed the motherboard and are still using the XP install from the previous one, then that is your problem, did you uninstall the drivers for the previous motherboard ?, have you installed the drivers for your new motherboard ?, have you tried a XP repair.Do you have a full copy of XP or is it an OEM copy ?. If I do an XP repair, will it overwrite GRUB?The copy of XP came with the computer (I didn't buy it separately), so I think it is the OEM copy. The disc will be tied to the motherboard that it was originally loaded onto.Your options are fairly limited.
