Max Track Posted January 7, 2009 Report Share Posted January 7, 2009 I'm having a problem when plugging in USB storage devices as they make Windows Media Player crash. I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2 and WMP v11 but the EmoDio software that came with my MP3 player also does this.I did swap hard drives between two identical laptops and don't know whether this may have caused the problem. Max Track Posted January 7, 2009 Author Report Share Posted January 7, 2009 I took the hard drive out of my old laptop as the computer was giving problems. It did sort out those problems (blue screens) but introduced these. I have not swapped back as the other laptop was returned to the supplier. All applications seem to work OK thus far and it's only these two media players that are affected. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling WMP. catgate Posted January 8, 2009 Report Share Posted January 8, 2009 In the grand scheme of things Mr Gates (please stand up when I mention his name) intended that his wonderful OS could not be transfered from one machine to another, and so a scheme of labels and numbers was devised to tie the OS to the specific machine that it was loaded onto originally.In transfering the HD from one machine to another you seem to me to have also transported most of the operating system with it. The only bit you have not transfered is that left in the CMOS on the motherboard that you now no longer have. I think that what is happening on your machine is that at some point it checks for the code, and does not find it, so then throws a little tantrum.Now I am no expert, and my knowledge of using XP is almost less than zero, but I think the above is the source of your problem......but then again I may be totally wrong.
