CurlyWhirly Posted January 9, 2009 Report Share Posted January 9, 2009 I have recently bought a new 64 bit Vista PC as my current PC is 7 years old and crashing randomly - it's probably because of it's age as it isn't overheating (I checked)After seeing this thread, it reminded me that Acronis is much praised on WF.I was going to buy a copy of it from ebuyer but the reviews aren't that good as apparently there is trouble with serial numbers?Does anyone use Acronis on a 64 bit Vista PC and are there really any serial number problems?The 2 reviewers were using Windows XP so the problems might be limited to that O/S and might not happen with Vista?If anyone dpoes use Acronis, is it a good imaging utility as I've been using Drive Image 7 (and Drive Image 2002 before that) for the last 6 years and it never let me down?I was thinking of trying out the trial version of Acronis from here but the thing is that if you do get a digital download, it isn't as good as having a physical CD/DVD Thanks. You then have a permanent (?) copy.I didn't think you could do that as I would have thought that some form of copy protection would be used. If you don't have it, or if updates have been applied to the Acronis software, be sure to make a bootable rescue CD. This way you can restore a backup if Windows fails to start. I have tried to use the original bootable install disk to restore a backup taken with the updated Acronis True Image 9.0 (build 3,854) - it failed.
