Leo Posted January 29, 2009 Report Share Posted January 29, 2009 Hey there :) This is something that's been bugging me. I have a PCI WLAN card (Marvell chip) and it always inits last on my system. This means that while Windows is loaded and everything, it still takes some extra seconds for me to be able to read my mail or a web page. Firefox and Thunderbird open up faster than Windows can connect to my home wifi network so I always get "can't connect to the server" for a brief moment. Also Windows Live Messenger will always start as signed out and I have to sign in manually even tho I've ticked the "Automatically sign in when Windows starts" box, because WLM is loaded before the wifi connection.I know these are insignificant things and it's not a problem for me to just wait the 5 or so seconds to get connected after Windows is fully started. I was just hoping there was a way to make the WLAN card first in line when Windows starts loading drivers. With a LAN connection you're always online, it'll have gotten you an IP address before the shell is even loaded...maybe this could be done with WLAN too?Thank you for reading this, hopefully you know of something I could do about it! Literally it actually reads "Allow WLM to sign in blabla...", I guess the emphasis here would be on the word allow. It's allowed, but not forced. I guess it just doesn't care about wifi.Pat, thanks for the link. A quick look at my wifi card's .inf file told me that it belongs to a group called "NDIS". Now NDIS stuff initializes about midway through all of the stuff that my XP loads so it's not about the card after all. The card is activated a long time before the shell is actually loaded. It's Windows simply doing everything else before connecting to wireless networks and I don't think that can be helped.
