Hb_Kai
As most of you know, I reformatted the hard drive to XP and Ubuntu from Vista and Ubuntu. The XP installation was a XP SP1 and I had to download SP2, updates, SP3, and more updates and now my 20GB partition is full...I'm pretty sure that's not supposed to happen so I'm trying to clean the hard drive a little bit because XP is supposed to be for gaming and can't fit much games on here.Going through the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS menu I've found numerous .NET Framework versionsMicrosoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack SP1These are what is taking up a lot of the space and was wondering if I actually need all three of them? -pops-
You do need all of them - or none at all. NET Framework is needed for a few programs but, most certainly not all. It was introduced as a convenient "catch all" to help software developers in their work. It may work well (I don't know) but developers don't want to be tied down to MS any more than they need to be so a lot have shunned it.Check around to see if any of your installed programs are using NET Framework before removing it.I feel I should point out that 20GB is not very much for an XP partition. My XP is on 160GB.
Hb_Kai
Yeah, I only need it to install a couple online games, Firefox, and MSN but I think I under-estimated it a little. I'm trying to fit everything on a 60GB hard drive and have Ubuntu use the bigger half might change it now.Anyway, thanks for that. :) I'll leave them alone. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Well, do you have any application(s) that need them? If not, you can uninstall all of them. Usually, applications indicate that they need .NET Framework, and what specific version(s). E.g. Filehippo Update Checker requires .NET Framework 2.0P.S. a 20GB partition should not be full with just Windows XP and a few applications. Make sure to run CCleaner to get rid of unnecessary temp files.
Hb_Kai
I'll do that shortly then.I do have a couple and I'm thinking maybe the stuff I make with VB .NET will need it too.
