Document folder crash / freeze

Hi!

I'm using a Dell Dimension 9150, XP SP3, Media Center Edition, Pentium D CPU 2,80 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, 230 GB harddrive

When I open the "My documents" folder through the start menu the folder comes up, but it freezes after 2 sec.

Here comes the weird thing. When I instead choose to access the very same folder, but this time through "My computer" > "Documents (Niklas)" <- that'll be my name, it doesn't freeze.

I was like "Oh well, I can live with it since I can access the folder other ways". But when I changed the icon view setting (it was "right click" > "View" > "Icons") to "Thumbnails" instead, it crashed, just like the other folder.

I therefore accessed the "My documents" folder and changed the icon view from "Thumbnails" to "Icons" in less than 2 sec (!) before it would freeze. But after I successfulled changed the icon view it didn't freeze anymore, if I changed it back to "Thumbnails" it crashed like usual. So I would say it's a clear connection with the icon view and the problem.

This has happened before though, one time. When I was uploading some videos from my camera in to a folder, the folder froze in just the same way everytime I tried to access it. I had to delete the videos through the document search engine to fix the problem.

But now I have no idea what causes the problem. I add and delete files frequently from the "My documents" folder, and I haven't done anything unusual with the folder during the time before the problem occured.

Any suggestions how I can fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Note: I'm a computer novice, so be kind! :flowers:

Welcome to the Windows Forum.

Not quite sure what is happening to you; sometimes you say it "crashes", sometimes it "freezes", which is very much not the same.

If it crashes, can you look at the Event Viewer (Applications), and check what it says for the time of the crash.

When it freezes, is it a permanent freeze, or does it come back if you wait for some time?

It is because of virus.

Are you sure? I did a full virus scan with Norton earlier, and crosschecked with AVG and AdAware, but this didn't yield any results.

Take no notice of the spammers. Although I would class Norton as little better than them as far as viri are concerned.

Do you have a restore point set?
