sweetdreamsaremadeofthis
Hi, I have a 6 year old XP pro SP2 gateway desktop I've tripped out to be a home theatre PC that has been causing my grief lately. Its a real workhorse for me, and is on 24-7, encoding video and or playing video. My problem is that since sometime in october every time windows update forces a restart (mostly during the middle of the night because its constantly hooked into my broadband router) the computer installs everything hunky dory but then locks on the bios (i think its the bios at least) giving me just the green "Gateway logo" and allowing no input. So I've been hard-rebooting it every time it does this, and its only done it maybe 8-10 times but each one of those really concerns me. She's really been good to me, and I don't really have the cash right now to replace her. Mind you, regular shut downs, start ups, and restarts never cause an issue (so far as I can tell) but every time windows pushes an update for XP it locks up. Any suggestions? Dencandy
Maybe the hard disk is just past its prime, especially if you're using as you describe. But have you run ChecDisk to test all your HD sectors & also scannow to check all your DLLs?
