Hb_Kai Posted March 3, 2009 Report Share Posted March 3, 2009 Go to Start Menu > Run type in "devmgmt.msc" and press ENTER and this will open up Device Manager.Check your sound drivers here. When you double click a device after opening the menu with the little + to the left of the words it will bring up a window and somewhere in it should tell you if it's working properly or not. From 'Sounds', did you also try 'Advanced'?My computer would not start up properly so thats why I did the recovery. The mute was already on when I first logged on after the recovery. Have you tried to uncheck it with the Space bar?It could be a registry entry that does not allow you to access it; I will check where the 'Mute' status is held. But this will be mostly in Binary data and I wouldn't mess around with it unless I actually knew what I was doing. :)It may not be in the registry anyway as the restore would have cleared the data. Troubleshoot it. To do this:Go to Control Panel - which should be in the Start Menu > find Sounds and Audio Devices > Hardware (tab at the top) > Find your speakers in the list > Click Troubleshoot.Another thing is to make sure your computer has been set to actually use the speakers for its sounds.Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio > Sound Playback > Highlight your speakers' manufacturer/device name > Test HardwareAlso on the window go to Volume > Advanced > Speakers > make sure they are set here too.And check the Speaker Settings bit too.If all this fails, in the Control Panel, installing your audio drivers may have made an option to change its settings. Mine is Realteck HD Sound Effect Manager (which is a bunch of crap) but there may be some settings similar for you to try.If all that fails, try re installing the drivers. Blackbox Posted March 4, 2009 Author Report Share Posted March 4, 2009 I downloaded Driver Detective and after the first scan underneath "Sound, Video, and game controllers" my "Creative SB Audigy" was out of date and so was my "Emuzed EvcapMaui Device" (plus "creative game port" which I'm going go out on the limb and say it has nothing to do with my sound) What do you recomend I should do? I'll search through the websites for the right one if you want.Also, what operating system are you using, including either 32 or 64 bit?
